Happy Sunday we just got home from a 4 day whirlwind in Chapel Hill!
We did it. We got her all moved in, the room (well, her side lol) looks beautiful and she loves the space. I wanna move in! Ha! Move in was hectic. Lots of people moving in at the same time and it was basically a free for all. All of her things. Heavy bags had to be carried up flights and flights of steps in 100 degrees! Otherwise you had to wait and wait for an elevator when time was ticking. So that was an eye opening experience and no athletes or fraternities there to help which we thought was strange, but we got it done.
Thank goodness we stayed that extra day. We went back on Friday to take her to breakfast and do a small Walmart run to grab some yogurt granola and protein bars to grab if she can't make it in the morning to the dining hall. She's already been out and about socializing which I'm happy about. She has 7 built in friends/roommates to go do stuff with so it's great! They went to some parties, went downtown to Franklin St, worked out at the beautiful gym. She even did a load of laundry last night! Imagine that?! LOL
In the midst of the mass chaos of moving in the UNC softball coach called and offered her a warm up position on the team. The problem is, her very difficult schedule to make was made 2 weeks ago and can't be changed and she would have to be at workouts during those times and transportation to get there then anxiety set in and she had to tell her that it wasn't going to work for her first semester but the coach was really nice and said you have my number maybe call next semester. I think at this point she's focused on just getting settled in so far from home and taking it day by day. But that was really great. Of course they loved the tough kid from New York!
So she's experiencing what true Southern Hospitality is. Everyone is so sweet and nice. Her roommates are all from various places down south and couldn't be sweeter. So I'm super happy about that.
Everyone at her school walking around is dressed to the nines! Even the boys. Guess it's that fancy, preppy southern thing. Thank goodness she has enough beautiful clothes to fit right in. It was 100 degrees down there the last 2 days and they said the feels like is 109. Trust me it was hot. So that's another thing she's getting used to.
Her classes start TOMORROW! OMG. She just texted me a picture that she was doing a dry run walk to see where all of her classes were before tomorrow. Smart girl. So this is one big thing I'm so happy is behind us. Now I can be there to encourage all of my friends going through it. People were SO thoughtful and encouraging with me, knowing this would be difficult , I need to pass it forward.
So the little TAR HEEL is all ready to go! Yippee. Counting the days until I see her again. Going to send her a care package tomorrow!
