Happy Monday guys.
We are beat up. LOL
( ALL STAR GAME )
Had 4 days away this time in Boston. Right in the middle of the heatwave! It was brutal out there on Friday and Saturday. We arrived Thursday after almost 6 hours in the car. The traffic was, well, the usual. Horrible. We stayed in a hotel that was a half hour from the fields. I'll never understand this. Sigh. The hotels they recommend are so far away with others closer. Which makes your wake up times, yadda, yadda that much earlier. The first day we had to be on the field at 6:45, so if you do the math, yeah, we had to be up, dressed, packed cooler and ready by 6 AM. Uh huh. Just to give you an idea of how this works. Ain't for the weak.
So anyway, she was told this is the showcase that all of her top schools would be at, so important, etc. She reached out to all the coaches as she does every week before a showcase, they said they'd be there and with 28 fields in 3 very different locations in Mass. None of them came to see her. Such a disappointment. On a thousand different levels. She did run into the Tufts University coach, who happened to be coaching the team she was playing and she asked her if she was attending that big academic Northeast camp next week. Charlotte said she was and the coach said. "Great, because that's where all these coaches get a real good up close look at you." So, that's where we are at. Staying positive. We DID get her into that academic all start game where she played with kids on her level. It was a breath of fresh air. She played 3rd base for the college coach from Maritime Massachusetts. She had a ball. The girls were from allover as far as Washington. She left there feeling so good. Her travel team is not made up of the nicest girls. They are very caddy and mean. Charlotte has 2 or 3 close friends on the team but the rest are not very nice. Which makes it hard. The coach isn't the nicest either. Which also makes it REALLY hard. Her good friend, the pitcher, is pitching for college next year, so it was a sad good bye to her this weekend.
Seems to be clearer to us now that we are in the thick of this, that the coaches for Charlotte's organization have pipelines to certain colleges. Quite frankly, colleges that Charlotte would not attend. They are not highly academic. Decent softball, but that's it. Char is looking for both high academic/softball without being D1 because that's hardcore, not fun. So a lot of the schools she will apply to are Ivy league, but there are also "little Ivy Leagues" that are D3. So we are kind of in limbo right now. Still staying hopeful, she will attend that 2 day camp next week in hopes that some of these big school coaches she'll get to speak to. So that's the update.
We are gearing up here for a big heatwave. Yikes. Web is at another pre-op right now for his foot surgery Friday. That's also Charlotte's last day of work. Then we can get this summer party started.
She has her senior pictures coming up soon too. Then we are packing up to get out of here for a beach week at our favorite spot, the Jersey Shore. Barb will come too with Marina. The girls and their moms definitely need this getaway.
Sending hugs. Stay cool.
